The Top Spots For Forgetting Your Cell Phone

Our Hotel has three of these areas that can be a hazard for forgetfulness.  Just the other day our staff ran after one of our guest with their forgotten phone.  This got me thinking and thanks to the internet here are some of the areas where the phone is the most forgotten.

Airport

Public restroom

Top of the car

Restaurant tabletop

Pool

Not sure if the poolside was due to leaving your phone at the lounge chair you fell asleep at and now are darker on one side than the other… or if you forgot it was in a pocket and jumped in the water… either way is no fun so please keep these hotspots in the back of your mind so you remember your phone… or lifeline as they have become!

You Can Help End Homelessness

Join us in ending homelessness in Miami-Dade County! You can change the lives of people experiencing homelessness by giving them a Homeless Trust Helpline Card. If you see someone who is or appears to be homeless, give them a card and ask them to call the Homeless Helpline at 1-877-994-HELP to help them access a wide array of housing and services, designed to help families and individuals get off the streets, and/or prevent homelessness, and get on the road to a better life.

Did you know that Miami-Dade County residents give millions of dollars to panhandlers each year? The fact is that not all who panhandle are homeless. Even if they are homeless, giving them money is not an effective means to help them. That's why we are deploying our Romero-Britto designed meters throughout Miami-Dade County. They are a safe, reliable and fully accountable means for you to help people who are homeless because 100% of the money collected in these meters is used directly to fund additional shelter beds, and expand the number of indoor meal programs for people experiencing homelessness. When you see one of our homeless donation meters, please consider giving your change to change a life.
For a map and a complete list of meter and Super Meter locations, please click here. You can also sponsor a meter by calling 305-375-1490 or by completing a sponsorship form below. Please mail the completed sponsorship form to the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust at:

Unique Attraction to Miami:

Situated on Watson Island in Miami, right between Miami Beach and Downtown Miami, is a wonderful interactive theme park that teaches about and features an amazing array of animals. Jungle Island is home to a variety of birds, mammals, primates, reptiles and fish and features some very unique animals like Ligers. Originally founded in 1936 and named Parrot Island, the park was located in southwest Miami and was one of the first tourist attractions established in the area. In the early 2000s it was decided that the park would move to its new Watson Island location and the previous park’s land was rededicated and developed into Pinecrest Gardens, a public park that features a Botanical garden, butterfly exhibit, petting zoo and more.

Jungle Theater is home to wonderful shows and is the most noticeable attraction from outside the park with its huge sails that cover the show ground. The “Tale of the Tiger” show at the Jungle Theater is a definite must see during your visit; it features many unique and rare varieties of big cats including four different colors of tigers as well as Black Panthers, Lynx and many more rotating cast members throughout the year. Another magnificent show at Jungle Island is the “Winged Wonders” show at the Parrot Bowl which highlights some of the wildest birds from around the world. Make sure to pay a visit to Pinky before the show, the cockatoo has been entertaining audiences for years with his high-wire bicycle riding act. Jungle Island is also full of animals and exhibits to entertain and educate all who visit. The Liger Habitat is home to Jungle Islands resident Liger, a lion-tiger mix, who weighs 900 pounds and is almost 12 feet tall, he is most definitely the king of this jungle. Another cool thing about the park is that many of the incredible birds enjoy being fed by visitors, you will find them nearby the food dispensers along the jungle path. The Manu Encounter is a unique exhibit designed to replicate the clay cliffs of Manu, Peru. Here you will enjoy an interactive ten minute presentations and experience free-flying macaws, parrots, Squirrel Monkeys and many other exotic animals. The “Serpentarium” is home to all kinds of interesting animals including Alligator Snapping Turtles, Boa Constrictors, African Penguins and even lemurs.

Jungle Island even has its own private beach, “La Playa”, so you can relax and unwind under an umbrella while the kids enjoy the inflatable water slides and bounce house. A visit to Jungle Island will run you around $24-$30 depending on age, children 2 and under as well as military personnel with ID receive free entrance to the park. The park is open 365 days a year, Monday-Friday from 10 am through 5pm and on weekends it remains open for an additional hour. Public transportation is available via Miami Dade transit and parking at the park is available for $7 per car. So bring the family and enjoy the fun, Jungle Island is definitely a must-see on everyone’s Florida vacation.

Miami Architecture

As you travel through our city, whether on business or pleasure, keep in mind there are some great works of architecture in our great city.  We have some smaller artistic buildings as well as some monstrous designs that add to our skyline!

Check out some of these buildings as you peruse our city and don’t forget your camera so you can capture their brilliance!!

Overlooking Biscayne Bay, the Vizcaya Museum ( www.vizcayamuseum.org ) is a Renaissance winter home that imitates an Italian villa. Originally, it had a dairy, chicken coop, mule stable and staff residences. Now, it is up to the visitor to imagine the ways of the old world in the new one.
Built in 1938, the Art Deco Building at 1401 SW 5th Avenue in the old Jewish neighborhood is an example of “ Modern Streamline” with its rounded contours, and vertical and horizontal lines.
Built by Reverend Merrick, Coral Gable's first developer, the Colonnade Building is another revival of the Mediterranean style. Its Rotunda is a popular place for receptions. During World War II the Rotunda was used by soldiers to practice parachute jumps.
